Rake pulling leftover leaves off a green lawn

What a spring cleanup includes

  • Leaves, sticks and fallen branches picked up from the lawn and beds
  • Plow sand and gravel swept off the lawn along the driveway and road
  • Matted grass raked out so new growth can come through
  • Beds cleared of leaves and last year's dead growth
  • Edges cleaned up
  • First mow of the season once the grass is ready
  • Everything hauled away

What a New Hampshire winter leaves behind

Plow banks push sand, gravel and salt onto the edge of the lawn. Late-falling oak leaves and storm branches sit under the snow all winter, and grass that was covered for months often comes out matted.

Raking that out early lets light and air back into the lawn and makes the first mow clean.

When to book a spring cleanup

Once the snow is gone and the ground has firmed up, usually April in southern New Hampshire and later up north. Working a soggy lawn too early leaves ruts and packs the soil.

Book in March to get on the schedule before the grass takes off.

Questions

Spring cleanups: good to know

How much does a spring cleanup cost?

It depends on the size of the yard and how much winter left behind. We price it after a free look at the property and send a written quote.

Do I need one if I had a fall cleanup?

Usually a lighter one. Winter still drops sticks and plow sand, and oaks often let go of their last leaves over the winter.

Can you fix plow damage along the lawn edge?

We rake out the sand and gravel. Turf that the plow tore up may need seed; ask about it at your estimate.

Can I start weekly mowing right after?

Yes. The spring cleanup ends with the first mow, and weekly mowing can pick up from there.
